Who's Ever Going To Read This Anyway

Who Watches the Watchmen?

Not many? I went to a theater to see the Watchmen on opening night and there were less than a dozen people in the theater to see it. That’s not usually a good sign. I’m sure most people had seen it on Thursday (those comic book nerds who really needed to see it) at midnight. And I’ll tell you what… It wasn’t the savior of the comic book movie genre that I was promised. Granted it was a good movie, a great story, and quite entertaining, but I don’t think it lived up to the hype.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m not trying to be a fan boy and bitch about what was in the comic and what didn’t make it to the movie or what was changed and the usual stuff I complain about when it comes to comic book films. I’m just viewing it as a piece of cinema. It wasn’t amazing and life shattering- which is what everyone had prepared me for.

The Good:
I enjoyed the fight scenes that were HERO vs regular person. Especially when the assassin tried to kill Adrian. It was fun. Great effects.
The opening credits were brilliant
The music was great- I want the soundtrack (not that most of the songs aren’t already on my ipod)
Jackie Earle Haley was amazing as Rorschach

The Bad:
The fight scenes that were HERO vs HERO were quite lame.
The movie was long, and it felt long. Dragged in parts. The story didn’t seem paced right.
Lots of wang, lots and lots of blue wang. I swear parts of it seemed like a soft-core porn (like when Dan and Laurie were banging)
The age progression makeup on Silk Spectre was far worse than on any other character.

The good FAR outweighed the bad. So if you want to see a good movie from a comic book, here you go. If you want to see the best movie ever made… you might need to go visit a local video store to rent it. Sorry. The story was told, it was pretty, but I’m not getting in line to go see it again (and if you know me- that’s saying something.)
